How Halloween Is Celebrated Worldwide

Halloween and its History:

Halloween is a famous festival that is celebrated on 31 October worldwide; it is a secular festival and is also known as the “All Saints Day”. Halloween has its roots in the Celtic Beliefs of Samhain and according to the ancient Celts; it’s the time when the souls of the dead blend with the living world; it was also believed that these dead souls were dangerous and for safety purposes these ancient Celts used to extinguish any kind of fire in their houses and they wore gruesomely-styled costumes. They thought that by these practices, these disembodied spirits would not cause any damage; they also made parades through the streets in which they would scream and make chaos.

With the course of time, the customs and traditions, which were inherited by these ancient Celts, became famous in ancient Rome and further. In 1840′s, Halloween was introduced in United States by the early Irish settlers who left their country to escape from the starvation and death due to the shortage of food. Today, Halloween is celebrated throughout the world and various countries have their own special way of enjoying this occasion.

Halloween around the World:

If you ever do a research regarding how Halloween is celebrated in different countries, you would notice that this festival is celebrated in several ways. In Austria, it is believed that souls from the dead could be welcomed by leaving a lighted candle & bread before going to bed at night. Not just that it is a tradition there, it’s a rule for all. Halloween is also celebrated in China; Chinese celebrates this festival by putting food items and drinks in front of the photos of their deceased relatives and according to them, this helps the dead souls to accomplish their way to heaven. In many countries, fireworks and bonfire are lighted for the celebration. Halloween is referred as the Oban festival in Japan; streets and houses are decorated with charming lanterns, which are usually red in color; these red lanterns are also set to be afloat in the rivers during the occasion. 
Halloween is celebrated with zeal and joy in Canada as well; people celebrate the occasion by wearing costumes, children often go trick ‘n’ treating and houses are decorated with lanterns and other great Halloween decorations. In many countries, Halloween is a traditional holiday; it is one of those holidays, which is highly awaited by people where the festival’s celebration is mandatory. Halloween is celebrated in some parts of France; it is not taken as a holiday there but it is celebrated by locals every year. 

People of Germany celebrate the occasion with great enthusiasm and you would amaze to see how eagerly Halloween is celebrated in the country. The markets, city centers and all areas are highly decorated with vibrant lightings and Halloween themed decorations. This great festival is also celebrated in Italy, Mexico, Spain and UK.
